Mary Elizabeth Black

Hey! My name is Mary Elizabeth Black, a Finnish graphic designer, creative partner, and freelancer based in Hamburg. I specialize in editorial design, print, branding, and visual communication, helping companies, agencies, and publishers translate content into compelling visual concepts — for both print and digital applications.

From in-house design and art direction roles to my independent one-woman design practice since 2015, I’ve collaborated internationally with agencies, editorial teams, brands, and businesses across a wide range of industries. I support clients in translating content into clear visual structures — from conceptual development through to final production.

My focus lies in the design of printed materials, magazines, publications, corporate materials, and cohesive visual identities and design systems. I combine strategic thinking with a strong sensitivity to typography, layout, composition, and visual storytelling.

My work includes, among other things:

Alongside graphic design, I have an academic background in photography and fine

arts, enriching my practice both aesthetically and conceptually through a hands-on

approach to materials, techniques, and production processes.

As a creative partner, I accompany projects from concept to final production. I work in a structured, reliable, and solution-oriented way — both independently and in close collaboration with teams, editorial departments, or marketing units.
