About Jannis

My focus is on understanding real-world workflows, identifying friction in complex systems, and translating those insights into clear UX concepts and technically feasible solutions. I work end-to-end — from user research and usability validation to interaction design and frontend-oriented specifications.

I specialize in products where complexity is unavoidable: internal tools, enterprise software, and AI-enabled systems. In these contexts, my work helps teams reduce cognitive load, improve decision-making, and build systems that support people rather than overwhelm them.

Alongside classic UX and product work, I bring a strong technical perspective. I collaborate closely with engineers, design with implementation constraints in mind, and bridge gaps between research insights, product decisions, and development.

Currently, I am expanding my technical focus through a Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence, with a strong emphasis on human-centered and responsible system design.

I typically support teams with:

- Making complex software understandable and efficient

- Validating product decisions through research and testing

- Translating UX insights into developer-ready concepts

- Improving usability in data-heavy and AI-assisted systems

  • SEBA Hydrometrie GmbH & Co. KG,
    Usability Engineer
    September 2023 - September 2024 (1 year)
    Kaufbeuren, BY, Germany
As a Usability Engineer at SEBA Hydrometry, I focus on improving the user experience of advanced hydrometric systems through a rigorous, research-driven, and user-centered approach. My work combines usability analysis, qualitative research, interface design, and hands-on prototyping to enhance the overall product experience for professional users in technical environments.

Within a long-term product development initiative, I conducted a detailed usability evaluation of the NetLogCom data collector, using cognitive walkthroughs and expert interviews to uncover key usability challenges. I translated these findings into a high-fidelity interactive prototype designed in Figma, incorporating UX best practices and intuitive UI structures.

To assess the redesign, I planned and conducted comparative usability testing with domain experts. The results showed that the prototype significantly outperformed the original interface in all core UX dimensions—effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction—according to established metrics. These improvements led to clear, quantifiable value for the business, reducing user errors, shortening training times, and boosting operator confidence in critical field operations.

This role allows me to synthesize my skills in UX research, qualitative methods, data analysis, UI design, and cross-functional collaboration, delivering strategic design outcomes that support SEBA’s mission to provide reliable and user-friendly measurement technology.

  • photrack AG,
    Technical Writer (UX)
    April 2022 - September 2023 (1 year and 5 months)
    Zürich, Switzerland
At photrack AG, a pioneer in non-contact water monitoring technology, I contributed in supporting the configuration and optimization of our proprietary software platform DLab, designed to deliver reliable, scalable, and affordable environmental monitoring solutions for global water management.

My responsibilities included the technical setup and calibration of hydrological monitoring stations for a range of national clients. This required in-depth familiarity with both the highly complex DLab system and the environmental science behind real-world monitoring applications. I engaged directly with customers, providing tailored configurations and ensuring the system met their data acquisition and reporting needs—both remotely and in close coordination with the field teams.

To enhance usability and accessibility, I led the complete UX-driven redesign of the DLab user manual, integrating clear structure, visual guidance, and accessibility principles. I also collaborated closely with software developers and researchers to align platform functionality with user expectations, and contributed to iterative usability improvements that increased operational efficiency and reduced onboarding effort.
