About Edvard

I help engineering teams and founders design, build, and stabilize production systems that hold up under real users. Over a decade in backend and full-stack architecture, and for the last two years AI-native: I build agents, MCP, and modern tooling into how systems get designed, written, and operated.

What makes me useful: anyone can get a demo working now, few can keep it running. I bring the production discipline that decides whether a product survives, real tests against real databases, migrations with rollback, monitoring and backups you have actually restored from, and CI/CD on every push. I own any layer, from domain modeling and API design to Kubernetes and observability, and I document what I build so your team can carry it.

Proof: I run an independent practice of live systems, including an 11-service Kotlin/Spring Boot platform in production since 2025 (574 API endpoints) and an EU-hosted identity service with a published SDK and an MCP server for AI agents (129 routes, 296 tests). Earlier, at a German B2B SaaS company, I led the decomposition of a monolith into 12 microservices serving 50+ tenants.

Typical engagements and deliverables:
• Architecture and second opinions: system design, service boundaries, a written recommendation you can act on.
• Legacy modernization: monolith into maintainable services, zero-downtime migration.
• Production readiness: tests, migrations, monitoring, backups, CI/CD, a system your team can run without me.
• Hands-on delivery: senior engineering by the day, remote-first, on-site in NRW when it helps.
• AI-native enablement: agent workflows, MCP, and the review discipline that keeps AI output from becoming tech debt.

Stack: Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot, TypeScript, Next.js, React, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions. Based in Aachen, working in English across the EU.

Independent engineering practice: I design, build, and operate production systems end to end, AI-native. Agents, MCP, and modern tooling are built into how the systems are designed, written, and run, not bolted on after.

Flagship, DanceClub (danceclub.app): an 11-service platform for social-dance events. Kotlin/Spring Boot across 67 modules with strict hexagonal boundaries, 574 API endpoints, 48 integration tests against real Postgres, and three Next.js frontends. Live in production since 2025, real users, real traffic.

elvix (elvix.is): EU-hosted identity-as-a-service with a published React SDK and an MCP server for AI agents. 129 API routes, 296 tests, three products sign in through it.

PLMHub (plmhub.eu): version control for AI-authored architecture plus a marketplace for agent skills. In active development.

Also: PulseAI, multi-provider LLM orchestration (Claude, GPT-4, Gemini), and Zeropost, a Bundesnetzagentur-registered digital-post platform.

Infrastructure: self-hosted on Docker and Kubernetes, CI/CD on every push (lint, type-check, test, build, deploy), monitoring and backups. No cloud vendor lock-in.

I also take on independent consulting: architecture reviews, system audits, and AI workflow design for teams adopting AI-native development.

Led architecture transformation and system modernization for a B2B SaaS company serving document processing and business automation workflows.

    • Led monolith-to-microservices decomposition: broke a Vaadin monolith into 12 independently deployable services, defining service boundaries, shared domain interfaces, migration sequencing.
    • Designed multi-tenant data and identity architecture serving 50+ tenants: tenant isolation, centralized authorization, cross-tenant security boundaries.
    • Introduced and integrated an API Gateway: unified authentication, routing, cross-service security controls as single ingress layer.
    • Architected the Optical Invoice Recognition (OIR) pipeline: YOLOv8 barcode detection, document parsing workflows, async job processing - 90%+ detection accuracy across thousands of invoices.
    • Built internal workflow tooling: configurable workflow editor and PDF toolkits for business process automation.
    • Mentored a team of engineers on domain modeling, architectural decision-making, maintainable system patterns.
    • Led cloud migration roadmap: deployment automation, containerization strategy, operational scalability.
